A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LAUREN SEARCY, A SEVENTH-GRADE STUDENT AT GREER MIDDLE SCHOOL, FOR BEING ONE OF THE TEN WINNERS IN A STATEWIDE ESSAY CONTEST SPONSORED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS.

Whereas, members of the South Carolina Senate were delighted to learn that Lauren Searcy, a seventh-grade student at Greer Middle School of Greer, South Carolina, was recently chosen as one of ten winners of a statewide essay contest sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs; and

Whereas, the contest theme this year was "Credit Card Fraud: Know the Rules and Use the Tools"; and

Whereas, the purpose of the essay was to focus students' awareness on what consumers can do to protect themselves from fraud, what kinds of problems fraud can cause consumers, the warning signs of fraud, and what laws protect the consumer; and

Whereas, Lauren ably demonstrated her knowledge of the subject and convinced the judges of her understanding of this important issue by submitting an outstanding entry; and

Whereas, Lauren Searcy will be awarded a savings bond on Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the State House with presentations by Governor James H. Hodges and State Consumer Advocate Philip S. Porter. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Lauren Searcy, a seventh-grade student at Greer Middle School, for being one of the ten winners in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lauren Searcy.
