TO HONOR THE WINTHROP UNIVERSITY EAGLES BASEBALL TEAM ON ITS 1999 BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Winthrop University Eagles Baseball Team achieved a noteworthy level of distinction on May 23, 1999, by winning the 1999 Big South Conference Tournament; and

Whereas, the Winthrop University Eagles Baseball Team, by that achievement, has secured a bid in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's annual tournament of the nation's 64 finest teams; and

Whereas, throughout their season, the members of the Winthrop University Eagles, under the guidance and mentoring of Eagles' baseball coach Joe Hudak and his staff, exhibited the qualities of tenacity, teamwork, and sportsmanship that are the goals of student-athletes everywhere; and

Whereas, this is the second time the Winthrop University Eagles baseball team has achieved this honor in the 1990's; and

Whereas, this is the third time this year that a Winthrop University athletic team has earned a Big South Tournament championship; and

Whereas, by their individual and collective achievements, all Winthrop Eagles athletes and their coaching staffs have brought national attention and national acclaim to Winthrop University, the City of Rock Hill, York County, and the entire State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Winthrop University, its baseball coaching staff, and the Winthrop Eagles Baseball Team as the 1999 Big South Conference champions.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Winthrop University Eagles Baseball Team, coaching staff, and Winthrop President Anthony J. DiGiorgio.
