COMMENDING AND THANKING MRS. SYLVIA SCOTT GRIFFIN OF DILLON FOR FORTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE AS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES, AS A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER, AND AS A COMMUNITY LEADER.
Whereas, Mrs. Sylvia Scott Griffin is a 1951 honor graduate of Dillon High School; and
Whereas, Mrs. Griffin was employed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services for twenty years; and
Whereas, she returned to school at Francis Marion College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree; and
Whereas, she was employed by Dillon High School for nineteen years as a teacher of economics, government, and history; and
Whereas, her dedication to her students has resulted in numerous awards, among them the South Carolina American History Teacher Award for 1989; and
Whereas, Sylvia Griffin has been involved in the community as vice president of the Dillon United Daughters of the Confederacy, volunteer at the Pines Nursing and Convalescent Home, and as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dillon; and
Whereas, Mrs. Griffin is the devoted wife of Stacey Griffin and the loving mother of two children; she is dedicated to serving others and is highly deserving of special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate commend and thank Mrs. Sylvia Scott Griffin of Dillon for forty years of outstanding public service as an employee of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, as a high school teacher, and as a leader in her community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Griffin.
