CONGRATULATING THE NAVY JUNIOR ROTC PROGRAM OF CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON BEING CHOSEN AS THE "BEST NAVY JUNIOR ROTC" IN THE NATION.
Whereas, the Navy Junior ROTC of Chapin High School of Lexington County has been named best Navy Junior ROTC in the nation by the Navy League, a support organization that recognizes Navy programs; and
Whereas, Chapin's unit was selected for the honor out of 435 units nationwide; and
Whereas, a panel of U.S. Navy officers made the choice; and
Whereas, Col. Buddy Slack, a retired Marine Corps officer who directed the University of South Carolina ROTC program until 1996, and fellow Chapin High teacher Senior Chief Charles Cook came to Chapin specifically to build one of the best Junior ROTC programs in the nation, and in three short years they succeeded in dramatic fashion; and
Whereas, the award confirms the dedication, hard work, expertise, and unity of the students at Chapin High School; the honor is prestigious and makes the school's Navy Junior ROTC program highly deserving of special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulates the Navy Junior ROTC program of Chapin High School of Lexington County on being chosen as the "Best Navy Junior ROTC" in the nation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chapin High School's Navy Junior ROTC program.
