EXPRESSING DEEP APPRECIATION TO BEVERLY BECKWITH HOWARD FOR HER ELEVEN YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE SENATE AND HER MANY ADDITIONAL YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND EXTENDING VERY BEST WISHES TO BEVERLY AND BOB HOWARD AS THEY BEGIN A NEW LIFE AND NEW CAREERS IN GREENVILLE.
Whereas, Beverly Beckwith Howard began her career with the General Assembly as a budget analyst with the House of Representative's Ways and Means Committee, serving from 1979 to 1982; and
Whereas, Beverly Howard is a native of Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School; and
Whereas, she attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, and received both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Beverly married Bob Howard in 1986 and moved from Columbia to Greenville, where she worked for Greenville Technical College; and
Whereas, the Howards returned to Columbia in 1987, and Beverly began her career with the Senate Finance Committee in 1988; and
Whereas, Beverly has been a dedicated employee of the Finance Committee with a very strong work ethic; she has always been committed to ensuring that the committee's budget deliberations and process operated as efficiently as possible; such commitment and attention to detail have earned her the reputation as "keeper of the record" for the committee; and
Whereas, Beverly has had an uncanny ability to anticipate the needs of the members of the Senate; this has made her highly skilled in answering the member's questions and responding to their requests; and
Whereas, she also has one of the most intellectual minds regarding matters related to state budgetary policies and procedures, state employee benefits, and state employee retirement issues; and
Whereas, her intelligence, integrity, sincerity, and passion for excellence in her work have made her special to the members of the Senate and an invaluable employee; and
Whereas, Beverly will be moving with her husband, Bob, to their native Greenville this summer where Bob is the new Executive Director for the Greenville Symphony Orchestra; and
Whereas, she will be greatly missed, not only by the members of the Senate Finance Committee, but by all the members and staff of the South Carolina Senate. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate express deep appreciation to Beverly Beckwith Howard for her eleven years of faithful service to the Senate and her many additional years of outstanding service to the State of South Carolina and extend very best wishes to Beverly and Bob Howard as they begin a new life and new careers in Greenville.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Beverly Beckwith Howard.
