A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE OUTDOOR ENSEMBLE OF BANDS OF IRMO OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SIXTH CONSECUTIVE SOUTH CAROLINA MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP AND ON ITS AWARD OF THE SUDLER FLAG OF HONOR FROM THE JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA FOUNDATION.

Whereas, the Outdoor Ensemble of the Bands of Irmo of Lexington County has been named Grand Champion of every South Carolina marching band festival since 1994; and

Whereas, its State AAAAA Marching Band Championship earned on November 6, 1999, represents an unprecedented sixth consecutive title; and

Whereas, the two-hundred-member band of Irmo High School was notified of the award of the Sudler Flag of Honor in December of 1999 and will be presented the flag personally at an event attended by members of the John Phillip Sousa Foundation; and

Whereas, the Outdoor Ensemble of the Bands of Irmo is one of only two bands in the United States, Canada, and Japan to be spotlighted in 1999 by the Foundation, which is named for "The March King"; and

Whereas, Director of Bands Bruce Dinkins and Director of Dance Lauren Metts have spearheaded superior educational opportunities in both music and dance for hundreds of South Carolina young people at Irmo High School; and

Whereas, under their tutelage, the highly motivated and keenly talented student members of the Bands of Irmo have served with distinction as Ambassadors of the Arts for the State, maintaining the highest standards of performance excellence, esprit de corps, and discipline. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate recognize and congratulate the Outdoor Ensemble of the Bands of Irmo of Lexington County on the occasion of its sixth consecutive South Carolina Marching Band Championship and on its award of the Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Phillip Sousa Foundation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bruce Dinkins, Director of Bands, on behalf of the Outdoor Ensemble of the Bands.
