REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO NAME THE RECENTLY COMPLETED BOAT LANDING ON THE WACCAMAW RIVER AT HIGHWAY 9 THE "CHRIS ANDERSON MEMORIAL LANDING AT HIGHWAY 9" AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES SHALL ERECT SUCH SIGNS AS APPROPRIATE FROM LOCALLY GENERATED FUNDING TO DESIGNATE AND NAME THE NEW LANDING AS THE "CHRIS ANDERSON MEMORIAL LANDING AT HIGHWAY 9".

Whereas, Horry County is recognized throughout the State for great water resources because of its rivers and the ocean; and

Whereas, these resources offer residents and visitors alike great fishing and recreational opportunities; and

Whereas, city and county governments and the Horry Legislative Delegation have joined hands in protecting, promoting, and developing these various resources for public use and benefit; and

Whereas, through the leadership of the Horry Delegation, a new boat ramp has been recently completed on the Waccamaw River at Highway 9; and

Whereas, it is the wish of the Horry Delegation, on behalf of all South Carolinians, that this boat ramp provide free public access to the Waccamaw River; and

Whereas, in 1996 twenty-year-old Chris Anderson from the North Myrtle Beach area lost his life; and

Whereas, Chris was a role model among his peers and all who knew him; and

Whereas, he was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman; and

Whereas, it was a great joy to Chris' life to spend time with his numerous friends along the Waccamaw River Basin; and

Whereas, the Anderson family have been great community builders in Horry County for generations. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is directed to name the new boat landing on the Waccamaw River at Highway 9 the "Chris Anderson Memorial Landing at Highway 9". Appropriate signs containing the words "Chris Anderson Memorial Landing at Highway 9" shall be placed on the property through locally generated funding by the Department of Natural Resources. The department shall also ensure that the boat ramp is available free of charge for public access to the Waccamaw River.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
