TO COMMEND THE LADY "WAVE" SWIM TEAM OF SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOR ANOTHER TERRIFIC SEASON OF COMPETITION AND CONGRATULATE THE TEAM ON WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Lady Swim Team of Summerville High School continued their winning ways in 2001 when they repeated as AAAA State Champions; and
Whereas, the Lady "Wave" from Summerville won eight of the eleven events at the state championship meet held in October at the University of South Carolina Natatorium; the team from Summerville placed in the top two in all but one event en route to a dominating two hundred nineteen point victory; and
Whereas, Summerville teams finished in the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard free relay, and the 400-yard free relay, and individual swimmers from the Lady "Wave" captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard individual medley; and
Whereas, in the process of winning their second consecutive state championship, the Summerville swimmers matched the accomplishments of last year's team by being crowned AAAA Region 6 Champions and by winning the lower state championship; and
Whereas, the 2001 Summerville Lady swim team was comprised of extremely gifted student-athletes who came together under the direction and guidance of Coach Dan McDonough; and
Whereas, the Summerville High School girls swim team has set the standard for competitive swimming in the Palmetto State, and the Senate is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of these young women and hope that they will continue to enjoy success in the years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend the Lady "Wave" Swim Team of Summerville High School for another terrific season of competition and congratulate the team on winning their second consecutive AAAA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Dan McDonough on behalf of the members of the Summerville High School 2001 Lady Swim Team.
