A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 23-28-100, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT ISSUED BY A POLITICAL ENTITY TO A RESERVE POLICE OFFICER, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A RESERVE POLICE OFFICER'S UNIFORM, CLOTHING, AND IDENTIFICATION MUST BE IDENTICAL TO THOSE ISSUED TO A FULL-TIME LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO HAS SIMILAR DUTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 23-28-100 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 23-28-100. The uniforms and equipment issued by the political entity shall remain the property of the entity but may, in the discretion of the chief, may be entrusted to the care and control of the reserves police officer. Reserves shall wear uniforms which will identify them as law enforcement officers. A reserve police officer's uniform, clothing, and identification must be identical to those issued to a full-time law enforcement officer who performs similar duties. Handguns, if issued, shall must be of a caliber approved by the chief."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
