A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. TIMOTHY W. SIMMONS OF AIKEN UPON RECEIVING THE AIKEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO AIKEN COUNTY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mr. Timothy W. Simmons has been selected as the Aiken Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year; and

Whereas, he received his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the Citadel and is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Security Federal Bank, having held that position since 1987; and

Whereas, during his tenure, Security Federal Bank has experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity, with eleven offices opening in three South Carolina counties and the total bank assets tripling in value; and

Whereas, not only has his leadership significantly impacted the success and profitability of Security Federal Bank, but he is also greatly admired and respected by his staff and personnel for the positive work environment he creates through his own personal work ethic, fairness, sensitivity, and employee recognition; and

Whereas, not only is Mr. Simmons known for his outstanding leadership at Security Federal Bank, but he is also renowned in the community for his dedication and excellence in service to myriad local organizations; and

Whereas, he has been a champion of education currently serving on the Aiken County Commission for Higher Education as Secretary-Treasurer and previously on the University of South Carolina, Aiken, Partnership Board; and

Whereas, Tim spearheaded a school program, Looney Tunes, which teaches the value of saving money and which has resulted in a bankwide program in all elementary schools in the county; and

Whereas, Mr. Simmons' community contributions reflect his many interests and talents, including serving on the United Way Board of Directors and the Aiken Rotary Club and serving as President of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Boys and Girls Club Advisory Council, the Aiken Board of Realtors, and the Aiken Downtown Development Corporation and serving as chairman of the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce and Co-chair of the Aiken County Open Land Trust Committee to Save the Carolina Bay Nature Reserve; and

Whereas, his skills as a manager, motivator, and consensus builder have moved many projects and programs forward expeditiously with significant results for the people of Aiken County and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize and congratulate Mr. Timothy W. Simmons on receiving this well-deserved and fitting tribute to an outstanding native son. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Timothy W. Simmons of Aiken upon receiving the Aiken Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year Award and commend him for his many contributions to Aiken County and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Timothy W. Simmons.
