TO CONGRATULATE THE LADY INDIANS OF ORANGEBURG PREPARATORY SCHOOL ON THEIR REPEAT TITLE PERFORMANCE FOR THE 2002 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO RECOGNIZE THE DEPARTING SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE STELLAR SQUAD.
Whereas, the Orangeburg Preparatory Lady Indians softball team trounced rival Florence Christian Academy 12-4 and 11-1 in their double elimination run for the 2002 South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class AAA crown; and
Whereas, their title performance was an impressive defense of their 2001 championship, earning them back-to-back softball championships and the respect that comes with that sort of athletic dominance; and
Whereas, the 2002 seniors forged the team's victory from the plate, the mound, the infield, and even the bench, in that pitcher Allison Weaver combined with Laura Bonnette to dominate the Florence Christian Academy batters, senior catcher and cleanup slugger Keri Davis squelched any baserunnners who had a notion to steal, infielder Katie Mixon protected second and scored the winning run, and injured Sabrina Puckett used her position on the bench to live up to her role as the emotional leader; and
Whereas, Weaver ends her season and prep career at 6-0 for the 23-6 season, while Laura Bonnette's 16-6 overall record is a nucleus for the formation of next season's team; and
Whereas, Head Coach Felder Evans and Assistant Coach Mark Nash have guided a renaissance in girls' softball at Orangeburg Preparatory School, and are looking forward to a shot at a third-straight title in 2003. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate congratulate the Lady Indians of Orangeburg Preparatory School on their repeat title performance for the 2002 South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class AAA State Softball Championship and recognize the departing senior members of the stellar squad.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Evans.
