A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND MICHELLE NANCE FOR HER HARD WORK AND DEDICATION THAT HAVE MADE HER A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN ACROSS OUR STATE AND RECOGNIZE HER OUTSTANDING RECORD OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE, PEER LEADERSHIP, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT.

Whereas, Michelle Nance, an esteemed resident of Simpsonville and a student at Mauldin Middle School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2002 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

Whereas, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

Whereas, Michelle earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy by organizing a program called "PALS" that helps autistic and learning-disabled students feel accepted at school through mentoring friendships with teen volunteers; and

Whereas, the strength of our communities and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Michelle who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore, pursuant to a motion of Senator David L. Thomas:

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and commend Michelle Nance as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award and recognize her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit.
