TO COMMEND EDNA W. NESBITT OF HOLLYWOOD FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO EDUCATION OVER THIRTY-TWO YEARS AS A TEACHER IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF CHARLESTON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND EVERY GOOD WISH TO HER AND HER FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM C. C. BLANEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM.

Whereas, Edna Waring Nesbitt was born on September 17, 1947, in Adams Run, South Carolina, the third of ten children to Melvin and Azalee Waring; and

Whereas, Edna Waring Nesbitt attended Adams Run Elementary School. When she entered the fifth grade, Minnie Hughes Elementary School was built, and she attended Minnie Hughes until eighth grade. She then attended Baptist Hill High School, where she graduated in 1965; and

Whereas, after high school, Mrs. Nesbitt attended Barber-Scotia College, where she majored in business. She graduated from Barber-Scotia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1969; and

Whereas, Mrs. Nesbitt's first job after graduation was as the librarian at Jane Edwards Elementary, under the leadership of Mr. Josiah Washington. After two years, she decided to return to school to become certified in Elementary Education. Upon completion of her certification from the College of Charleston, she began working as a classroom teacher at Jane Edwards, teaching the third, fifth, seventh, and eighth grades; and

Whereas, in 1977, Mrs. Nesbitt transferred to Minnie Hughes Elementary School where she taught first grade under the leadership of Mr. Isaiah Frasier. She taught at Minnie Hughes under Mr. Frasier until his retirement and then taught under Dr. Theodore Coker; and

Whereas, in 1984, Mrs. Nesbitt transferred to C. C. Blaney Elementary School, where she taught first grade, again under the leadership of Mr. Josiah Washington. In 1995, Mr. Washington retired and Mrs. Blondell Adams assumed leadership of C. C. Blaney Elementary School. Mrs. Nesbitt continued teaching in the classroom until 1999, when Mrs. Adams appointed her as lead teacher. Under their joint leadership, C. C. Blaney Elementary School has flourished into an award-winning school, achieving many honors, including recently receiving an excellent rating from the Department of Education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Nesbitt truly enjoyed her many years of teaching and often worked long hours. It is typical for her to be the first to arrive, and the last to leave, though she never lived very far away from her school. Through her years of teaching, she taught as many as three generations of students, getting to know their families well. She always wanted the very best for all of her students; and

Whereas, in 1971, she married Herman L. Nesbitt from Church Hill. The Nesbitt family has been blessed with three children. A son, Herman L. Nesbitt II, born on May 5, 1973. A daughter, Hesha Nesbitt, born on July 17, 1978. Mrs. Nesbitt's third child, Harlin L. Nesbitt, was born exactly nine years to the day after her second child, on July 17, 1987. Despite her dedication to education and her chosen profession of teaching, Mrs. Nesbitt managed to be a loving wife, successfully raised three very busy children, and took care of her demanding family. She is truly a blessing to those whose lives she has touched, and to her family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, commend Edna W. Nesbitt of Hollywood for her outstanding contribution to education over thirty-two years as a teacher in the public schools of Charleston County, and to extend every good wish to her and her family on the occasion of her retirement from C. C. Blaney Elementary School and the Charleston County school system.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Edna W. Nesbitt of Hollywood.
