A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM ON A SUPERB SEASON OF COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON PUTTING TOGETHER THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF SKILL, HARD WORK, AND FORTITUDE DURING THE 2000 SEASON TO WIN ITS FIRST EVER SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAA DIVISION I AND "BIG 16" STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, Dorman High School of Spartanburg is a top contender in AAAA Region 2 varsity football and during the 2000 season the Cavaliers were 7-0 in Region 2 play and they won 10 out of 11 games overall in the regular season, loosing only one hard fought contest to Greenwood; and

Whereas, the Dorman football team defeated Fort Mill 34-0 in its last regular season game to clinch the AAAA Region 2 Championship; and it defeated Sumter 50-19, Northwestern 36-0, and Rock Hill 30-20 to win the right to compete in the AAAA Division I State Championship; and

Whereas, facing a tough Lexington team, the Cavaliers rallied in the third quarter from a 24 point deficit to score 31 points in the second half of the game and defeat Lexington 31-24, thereby giving Dorman High School its first ever AAAA Division I State Championship; and

Whereas, the entire team excelled in every aspect of football, and the team's efforts helped produce four All-State players: David Gutshall, a senior tight-end and defensive back; Brandon Turner, a senior wide receiver and defensive back; Andrew Hewitt, a junior quarterback and defensive back; and Trey Rodgers, a senior quarterback and defensive back, who was also named the South Carolina Offensive Player of the Year; and

Whereas, the hard work and discipline instilled in his players by Coach David Gutshall helped these young men achieve their maximum potential, and their play reflected his intensity and enthusiasm, all of which made Coach Gutshall the clear choice for the 2000 Region 2 AAAA Coach of the Year as well as the Herald Journal Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, the Dorman High School Varsity Football Team is a talented group of hard working student athletes whose members include Jack Ross, William Pearson, Calvin Peak, Kendrick Lynch, Darryl Thompson, Jarvis Nesbitt, Regis Rice, Brandon Turner, Eric Fowler, Steven Callicut, Andrew Hewitt, Jensen Turner, Richard Patterson, Trey Rodgers, Jason Dyer, Matt Conn, Ross Owens, Ken Rowland, Jonathan Holder, Reggie Davis, Troy Fisher, Rick Bartlett, Sherron Johnson, Terrance Smith, Daryl Rookard, Phillip Price, Travis Cohen, Kareem Foster, Caleb Smith, Peyton Prysock, Travis Mitchell, Jake Foster, Aaron Pretulak, Wesley Jones, Austin McPherson, Zach Farr, Joe Massey, Cory Lowrance, Kyle Johnson, David Humphries, Kenneth Dawkins, Shawn Eubanks, Derrick Compton, Daniel Greene, Paul Deal, Tyler West, Mitch Anthony, Brooks Shands, Lee McKenzie, Steven Mills, Emil Gibson, and David Gutshall; and

Whereas, the coaching staff of the Dorman High School Varsity Football Team is a dedicated group of leaders and teachers directed by Head Coach David Gutshall and includes assistant coaches Ed Whitt, Mike Lancaster, Todd White, Thomas Bates, Tom Manoski, Karl Andreas, Chris Vassey, Derek Burnette, George Foster, John Sorrels; and the trainers that keep the team fit for competition include Head Trainers Mickey Sobeski and Jason Littlefield along with Shehryay Humayun, Meagan Gregory, Jessica Dyer, and Caitlin Hazel. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate commend the Dorman High School Varsity Football Team on a superb season of competition and congratulate them on putting together the right combination of skill, hard work, and fortitude during the 2000 season to win its first ever South Carolina Class AAAA Division I and "Big 16" State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach David Gutshall on behalf of the Dorman High School Varsity Football Team of Spartanburg.
