A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR MR. AND MRS. HENRY WRIGHT OF VARNVILLE FOR THE WONDROUS AND JOYOUS EVENT OF CELEBRATING THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON NOVEMBER 19, 2000.

Whereas, with great pride and admiration, the members of the House of Representatives learn that Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wright of Varnville who celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on November 19, 2000; and

Whereas, Henry Wright was born on April 20, 1928 to Bosie Kearse and Luelle Wright, and Katherine Lyons was born on May 15, 1932 to Benny and Corine Doctor Lyons. They grew up in the small rural town of Varnville where they first met when Henry was thirteen and Katherine was nine years old; and

Whereas, Katherine and Henry were married in Hampton County, South Carolina on November 19, 1950. They moved to Brooklyn, New York and lived there three years before returning to South Carolina with their first born son, Charles Henry. They have lived in Varnville since 1953; and

Whereas Henry worked as a delivery man and general helper for Varnville Hardware for many years. He also excelled at a career as a painter; and

Whereas, Katherine was a domestic and worked as a seamstress in the garment industry. She is very skilled at making quilts, dolls, and clothing; and

Whereas, the Wrights have been blessed with twelve wonderful children: Charles Henry, James Melvin, Benny who passed away at birth, Jessie, Steve Allen, Judy Darlene, Alice Corean, John Glenn, German, Kenneth Allen, Elizabeth Suzette, and Patrick LaMon; and

Whereas, the Wrights are further blessed with many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who keep them very busy in their retirement; and

Whereas, their children were raised with the love and knowledge of God, and imbued with the importance of a good education. The children studied the Good Book and their schoolbooks. All of the children have a high school degree; some have college and post graduate degrees; and

Whereas, Henry is now a deacon at Antioch Christian Church and Katherine is a missionary and Church Mother at Christ Church the Deliverance Temple for God in Varnville; and

Whereas, the Wright's strong morals and Christian values have been wonderful examples to their children, their children's families, and all their many friends and acquaintances over the years of this century; and

Whereas, the strength of their union is a true example of commitment, devotion, Christian love, faith, and endurance; and

Whereas, their innumerable friends and relatives respect, admire, and love them deeply for their outstanding qualities and exemplary deeds; and

Whereas, we honor the true meaning of marriage when we honor Katherine and Henry Wright and extend to them our best wishes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives honor Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wright of Varnville for the wondrous and joyous event of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary on November 19, 2000.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wright.
