TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF JOHN MCLEOD STOCKBRIDGE OF SUMTER AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened at the death of John McLeod Stockbridge of Sumter. Mr. Stockbridge died Sunday, February 18, 2001, after a long illness; and
Whereas, John McLeod Stockbridge was the director of the Sumter City-County Planning Commission from 1981 to 1997. Under his direction, Sumter County realized a seventeen percent growth rate. The county still follows the procedures set forth by Stockbridge; and
Whereas, the people of Sumter will remember John McLeod Stockbridge as a wonderful leader who was liked by all and who made Sumter a better place; and
Whereas, John McLeod Stockbridge was also involved in his community through various organizations where he held leadership positions and was honored in other ways. He was active in several planning and management organizations: the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, The Carolinian Ball, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, and First Presbyterian Church; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives express heartfelt sympathy upon the death of John McLeod Stockbridge to his wife, Kay Meadows Stockbridge of Sumter his children, Jason Mattox Stockbridge and Ann Lamar Stockbridge, both of Sumter; his brother, Derry Lamar Stockbridge III, of Atlanta, Georgia, and his sister, Dorothy G. Stockbridge, of Valdosta, Georgia. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of John McLeod Stockbridge of Sumter and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of John McLeod Stockbridge.
