A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE FOUR DISTINGUISHED CHARTER MEMBERS, JACK CALLISON, MACK EUBANKS, WILSON HOWARD, AND FRANK SMITH OF THE CAYCE-WEST COLUMBIA LIONS CLUB UPON RECEIVING SPECIAL RECOGNITION FROM THE CLUB FOR THEIR FAITHFUL SERVICE AS CHARTER MEMBERS FOR ALMOST HALF A CENTURY AND TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE CAYCE-WEST COLUMBIA LIONS CLUB FOR ITS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO ITS COMMUNITY AND STATE AS IT NEARS THE CELEBRATION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY IN AUGUST 2002.

Whereas, Jack Callison, Mack Eubanks, Wilson Howard, and Frank Smith are charter members of the Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club which was chartered in August 1952; and

Whereas, these four men are each distinguished Lexington County business and civic leaders who in conjunction with the other members of this respected club over a period of almost fifty years have contributed greatly in meeting the needs of their fellow citizens in Cayce, West Columbia, Lexington County, and South Carolina; and

Whereas, Lions Club International is known throughout the world for its work in many areas but especially in sight conservation, and these four charter members played a key role in helping the Cayce-West Columbia Club raise nearly one hundred fifty thousand dollars in the 1990's toward the work of the club on a state, local, and national basis; and

Whereas, Jack Callison is a director and also served forty-seven years in the demanding capacity as the club's secretary/treasurer; and

Whereas, Mack Eubanks has served as a club director, vice president, club president, Sight Conservation chairman, and he initiated the club's ongoing scholarship program; and

Whereas, Wilson Howard served as vice president, club president, director, and tail twister, and in 1976, sold an incredible four thousand dollars worth of brooms which may still be a record; and

Whereas, Frank Smith served as director, vice president, president, district governor, president of the South Carolina Lions Sight Conservation Association, treasurer of the South Carolina Eye Bank, and initiated the effort that led to the building of a facility for South Carolina Lions Inc., which is presently housed across the street from the Lexington Medical Center; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank these four outstanding South Carolinians and the Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club for all they have done to make their community and State a better place over a period approaching fifty years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate four distinguished charter members, Jack Callison, Mack Eubanks, Wilson Howard, and Frank Smith of the Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club upon receiving special recognition from the club for their faithful service as charter members for nearly half a century and recognize and commend the Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club for its outstanding contributions to its community and State as it nears the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary in August 2002.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Jack Callison, Mr. Mack Eubanks, Mr. Wilson Howard, and Mr. Frank Smith and the Cayce-West Columbia Lions Club.
