TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF BRUCE UPDIKE OF TEGA CAY, ONE OF YORK COUNTY'S AND TEGA CAY'S MOST RESPECTED COMMUNITY LEADERS, UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Bruce Updike of Tega Cay, who together with his wife, Kitty, were two of Tega Cay's most outstanding community leaders; and
Whereas, Bruce Updike and his wife, Kitty, moved to Tega Cay in 1979, and they immediately became deeply involved with the Tega Cay community; and
Whereas, Bruce Updike was a charter member of the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce, president of the Tega Cay Area Chamber of Commerce, president of the Tega Cay Lions Club, a founder of the Gold Hill YMCA, as well as an active member of the Good Folks of York County; and
Whereas, he also founded the Lions Vision Scholarship Program, designed to provide financial assistance to vision or hearing-impaired students at York Technical College and always was willing to support York Technical College in whatever way was needed; and
Whereas, Bruce Updike was a retired executive with IBM and brought to his retirement the same energy and vitality that made him so successful with IBM; and
Whereas, the people of Tega Cay and York County with the death of this delightful and good-humored man at the age of seventy-three have lost an integral and much admired member of their community who will not easily be replaced; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his wife, four children, and other family and friends upon their loss. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Bruce Updike of Tega Cay, one of York County's and Tega Cay's most respected community leaders, upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Kathryn Updike.
