A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE CLARENDON HALL VARSITY GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM FOR A SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION AND TREMENDOUS SUCCESS AND TO CONGRATULATE THE "SAINTS" ON WINNING THE 2001 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Clarendon Hall Varsity Girls Softball Team for having put together the right combination of skill, hard work, and determination this season to win the 2001 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Softball Championship when they defeated Andrew Jackson in the championship game on Saturday, May 5, 2001; and

Whereas, the "Saints" of Clarendon Hall went into each game with a confidence and determination that enabled them to finish the season with a remarkable overall record of fourteen wins and only four losses, including an 11-1 record with the conference; and

Whereas, the Varsity Girls Softball Team of Clarendon Hall, under the direction and inspiration of Head Coach Joey Godwin, battled its way through a tough regular season and emerged with twelve wins and only four losses, making the "Saints" the Class A Region III regular season champions; and

Whereas, the "Saints" of Clarendon Hall entered the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Tournament in Lexington, South Carolina poised to accept nothing less than the state title, and on Friday, May 4, the team climbed one step closer to that goal when they defeated St. John's Christian Academy in five innings by a score of 16-6 in Clarendon Hall's first game of the double elimination tournament; and

Whereas, Clarendon Hall met Andrew Jackson Academy in the championship game of the State Tournament on Saturday, May 5, and with their family and friends cheering them on, the "Saints" claimed victory in the bottom of the seventh inning with an 8-7 lead over Andrew Jackson; the girls of Clarendon Hall achieved their ultimate goal of building a championship team and won the 2001 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Title; and

Whereas, the 2001 Varsity Girls Softball Team of Clarendon Hall was made up of disciplined student-athletes including Marlee Bennett, Dana Bennett, Ashley Brunson, Madeline Crosby, Brittany Godwin, Lauren Godwin, Virginia Griffin, Megan Morris, Erin Oswald, Ashley Ridgeway, Lil Stukes, Danielle Sweatman, Rebecca Tindal, and Danielle Wilson; the players were led by Head Coach Joey Godwin and Assistant Coach Joyce Winans, with support and encouragement from Athletic Director Tim Grant, scorekeeper Melissa Ridgeway, Bat Girl Jourdan Winans, Headmaster Joseph Elliott, and Chairman of the School Board Thomas L. Rhodes, Jr.; and

Whereas, the players, coaches, and staff of the 2001 Clarendon Hall Varsity Girls Softball Team committed themselves to a season of excellence and together accomplished what every team in competition sets out to do, which is to be the best; the House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing the accomplishments and the championship season of the "Saints" of the Clarendon Hall Varsity Girls Softball Team; and

Whereas, the fine administrative staff of Clarendon Hall deserves recognition for their outstanding support of the "Saints" during their quest for this championship. The administrative staff includes Headmaster, Mr. Joseph C. Elliott, Assistant Headmaster, Ms. Virginia T. Rhodes, Elementary Administrator, Ms. Dareen B. Sweatman, Athletic Director, Mr. Timothy W. Grant, Assistant Athletic Director, Dr. Michael F. Connors, Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Elaine G. McIntosh, Programs and Senior Guidance, Mrs. Nancy Lynn Brunson, Secretary and Attendance Clerk, Mrs. Anne B. Elliott; and

Whereas equally deserving of recognition is the distinguished members of the Clarendon Hall Board of Trustees whose time and talents make Clarendon Hall a fine school. The Clarendon Hall Board of Trustees is composed of Chairman, Mr. Thomas L. Rhodes, Jr., Dr. J. D. DuBose, Mr. D. P. Elliott III, Mr. Leslie B. McIntosh, Dr. L. A. Robinson, Mr. W. R. Simpson, Mr. Thomas R. Bair, Mr. John William Felkel, Dr. Eugene E. Phillips, Mr. D. Leslie Tindal, Jr., and Mr. David L. Tindal III. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the players, coaches, and staff of the Clarendon Hall Varsity Girls Softball Team for a season of spirited competition and tremendous success and congratulate the "Saints" on winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Softball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Joey Godwin on behalf of the Varsity Girls Softball Team of Clarendon Hall.
