TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MAE "MISS MAE" W. CATOE OF LANCASTER COUNTY FOR OVER FORTY-SEVEN YEARS OF DEVOTED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON THE LANCASTER COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTION COMMISSION AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO HER FOR HER LIFETIME OF CONTINUING COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE.
Whereas, Mae W. Catoe has served with dedication and distinction on the Lancaster County Registration Election Commission since 1953, the longest serving member that the commission has ever had; and
Whereas, Mrs. Catoe was born September 15, 1914, in Kershaw County; she moved to Lancaster in 1932 when she married her husband, the late David Catoe. She is the loving mother of Albert Catoe and the beloved grandmother of two grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and
Whereas, "Miss Mae", as she is affectionately known throughout Lancaster County, has a reputation to match her longevity on the commission; she has served, and continues to serve, the commission with the utmost integrity, tireless devotion, and the strictest of work ethics; she is strongly committed to the election process and to fulfilling the purposes and mission of the commission; and
Whereas, Miss Mae's enthusiasm, spirit, and dedication to public service is replicated in her commitment to serving the Lord and her fellow man; and
Whereas, she as been a loyal and faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1948 when she became a charter member, and she has taught the Ladies Sunday School Class longer than its members "care to say"; and
Whereas, Miss Mae does not miss an opportunity to serve others; whether its extra hours helping out in the commission office or ministering to the sick, the infirm, or the shut-ins, she is devoted to serving others, giving of herself and her time, and lifting the spirits of all whom she encounters; and
Whereas, having served on the Election Commission for over forty-seven years, Miss Mae still has much to give and years to serve. In the words of George Morton the Chairman Commission, "As long as she is willing and able, Miss Mae will always be a member of our commission"; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Mrs. Mae W. Catoe, one of South Carolina's leading ladies and an extraordinary public servant. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to recognize and honor Mae "Miss Mae" W. Catoe of Lancaster County for over forty-seven years of devoted and distinguished service on the Lancaster County Registration and Election Commission and to express their gratitude to her for her lifetime of continuing commitment to public service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mae W. Catoe.
