A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO ROSALIE PRAZANT OF BEAUFORT COUNTY FOR HER VISION AS CO-FOUNDER OF THE GULLAH FESTIVAL OF SOUTH CAROLINA, WHICH ATTRACTS NOT ONLY THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO SOUTH CAROLINA EVERY YEAR BUT ALSO NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION TO OUR STATE.

Whereas, Rosalie Prazant of Beaufort County has culminated her lifetime of community service by co-founding and presiding over the Gullah Festival of South Carolina; and

Whereas, this unique and exciting celebration of the cultural heritage of our State attracts thousands of visitors, as well as national and international attention; and

Whereas, her zone of influence begins as musician for several Beaufort area churches, expands through teaching in the Beaufort County schools and Savannah State College, and stretches across the ocean to Freetown, West Africa where she is the only African-American holding honorary membership in HERAL, a Freetown heritage association; and

Whereas, she has been recognized for her contributions with the Savannah State Alumni Association Award, the Education Award from the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., the Affirmed African-American Women of Distinction Award, and the National Council of African-American Women; and

Whereas, her autobiography, Never Too Late, expresses her love for her heritage, her community, her State, and her family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express their appreciation of the State of South Carolina to Rosalie Prazant of Beaufort County for her vision as co-founder of the Gullah Festival of South Carolina, which attracts not only thousands of visitors to South Carolina every year but also national and international attention to our State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Prazant.
