TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE SENECA HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM ON THEIR TERRIFIC SEASON OF COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THE "LADY BOBCATS" ON WINNING THE 2001 CLASS AAA SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the "Lady Bobcats" of Seneca High School were crowned the 2001 South Carolina Class AAA Softball State Champions for the second time in three years after they defeated a tough Georgetown team twice in the best-of-three championship series at the Freedom Florence Complex; and
Whereas, the "Lady Bobcats," led and inspired by Head Coach Karen Trammell and her hard working staff, capped an incredible season of thirty-one wins and only four loses when they claimed the Class AAA State Title, fulfilling their dream of returning to the State Championship game and walking away with the crown; and
Whereas, the "Lady Bobcats" took the first game in the Championship Series from Georgetown in tight fashion, winning by a score of 2-0, the twentieth time this season that the "Lady Bobcats" had shut out their opponent; but, after losing the second game, Coach Trammell decided that the team needed some relaxing and motivation; and
Whereas, before they took the field to play the deciding game of the Championship Series, the girls from Seneca High School got together on their team bus and watched the inspiring motion picture "Remember the Titans", which Coach Trammell believes helped the team get fired up mentally and emotionally, allowing them to play their best while still enjoying the fun elements of the sport; and
Whereas, the "Lady Bobcats" from Seneca jumped to a 1-0 lead over Georgetown in the first inning of the third and deciding game of the Class AAA Championship Series; the team later added a run and then handed the game over to pitcher Aleca Johnson who retired 12 of the last 15 batters from Georgetown; the 2-0 lead proved to be enough for Seneca to win the game and leave the field as State Champions; and
Whereas, the "Lady Bobcats" of Seneca High School were able to put together the right combination of hard work, skill, and determination to capture their second State Softball Championship in three years and the General Assembly is proud to recognize the team's accomplishments and wish them great success in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the players, coaches, and staff of the Seneca High School Softball Team on their terrific season of competition and congratulate the "Lady Bobcats" on winning the 2001 Class AAA Softball State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Karen Trammell on behalf of the Seneca High School Softball Team.
