TO COMMEND THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND SUPPORT STAFF OF SATCHEL FORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA IN RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE ON THEIR OUTSTANDING SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON THEIR SCHOOL BEING NAMED A NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina is pleased to learn of the marvelous accomplishment attained by Satchel Ford Elementary School in being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and
Whereas, only about one in every five hundred schools nationwide are honored as Blue Ribbon schools each year. The program recognizes excellence in the school environment, including leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and organizational vitality; and
Whereas, the Blue Ribbon program gives national recognition to schools that are exemplary in meeting local, state, and national goals and in educating all children. These recognized schools serve as models for all other schools and represent what can be accomplished if the entire school community works together at becoming the best they can become; and
Whereas, the Blue Ribbon program also looks at student performance on various standardized tests, daily student and teacher attendance rates, and school, staff and student awards; and
Whereas, to win this award requires an extraordinary commitment and an extraordinary amount of work. An award received is a commendation for the entire school community, including educators, school staff, students, parents, business partners, and school volunteers; and
Whereas, Principal Virginia Lacy, along with the faculty and staff, have certainly demonstrated their dedication and support by improving the opportunities for the students at Satchel Ford Elementary School in order for this high standard of excellence to have been attained; and
Whereas, over the past six years, fifty-eight South Carolina schools have been national winners, and it is befitting that the General Assembly pause in its deliberations to commend and honor Satchel Ford Elementary School, its students, teachers, administrators, and support staff for their efforts to make their school a symbol of pride not only to them but also to their school district, county, and State. Now, therefore,
