A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE JAMES ISLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL LIONS BOYS SOCCER TEAM ON THEIR 8-1 VICTORY OVER BYRNES ACADEMY TO CAPTURE THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CLASS A-AA STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, the James Island Christian School Lions defeated Byrnes Academy by a seven goal margin to capture the South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association State Boys Soccer Championship; and

Whereas, in the beginning of the second half of play, the Lions were leading 3-0 and were relentless in their charge against Byrnes, scoring five more goals while allowing only one opposing goal in the sixty-second minute of the game for a final victory of 8-1; and

Whereas, after learning a tough lesson in their season opener on a last minute penalty kick, the Lions played out the season with extraordinary effort and dogged determination to end with an impressive 14-2 record in the Lion's first season at the Class A-AA level; and

Whereas, the Lions were led to victory under the outstanding leadership and talented coaching of Coach Mike Walters whose commitment and dedication have served the Lions well but have also brought him personal recognition for being twice named Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, the championship Lions Soccer Team is composed of Anna Bowman, Mark Bowman, Joseph Clarey, B. J. Crosby, B. J. Edmonds, Chris Hostetler, David Hostetler, Matt Kauffmann, Zach Lindsay, Nikki Marthai, Gideon Nagy, David Southwick, Jamie Southwick, Chad Sumner, and Kenny Wagner; and

Whereas, individual accolades for being selected as all conference players go to Mark Bowman, David Hostetler, Gideon Nagy, Chad Sumner, and David Southwick, who was also selected as the "Most Valuable Player"; and

Whereas, the success of the Lions Soccer team has been aided by the unfailing support of the players' families and friends and the continuing support and encouragement of Nancy Southwick, Athletic Director, Dr. Terry King, Headmaster, and Mrs. Karey S. Sumner, Principal; and

Whereas, this Class A-AA State Championship has brought great pride to James Island Christian School and to the James Island community, and the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize this group of fine young men, Coach Walters, and the staff and administration of James Island Christian School. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the James Island Christian School Lions Boys Soccer Team on their 8-1 victory over Byrnes Academy to capture the South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association class A-AA State Soccer Championship and commend them for an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the James Island Boys Soccer team, their Coach Mike Walters, and the school staff and administrators.
