TO COMMEND MINGO VERNON M. TANNER, CHIEF OF THE CHALOKLOWA CHICKASAW INDIAN PEOPLE, FOR HIS UNTIRING EFFORTS TO ENSURE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF SOUTH CAROLINIANS WILL KNOW AND ENJOY THE RICH HERITAGE OF OUR STATE'S NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS AND TO RECOGNIZE HIM FOR HIS EFFORTS TO PRESERVE THE TRADITIONAL WAYS OF INDIAN CULTURE.
Whereas, Mingo Vernon M. Tanner is known to many of South Carolina's elementary school students as Mingo Big Bear Claw; and
Whereas, Mingo Bear Claw has worked tirelessly in the public schools to present both educational and enjoyable learning experiences about not only Chickasaws, but many of the state's indigenous Indian people; and
Whereas, Mingo Big Bear Claw has served all the Indian people of South Carolina as a member of the South Carolina Indian Affairs Commission; and
Whereas, Mingo Bear Claw has worked to make the citizens of South Carolina aware of the needs and concerns of all Indian people so as to provide advancements in educational and social standings. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commends Mingo Vernon M. Tanner, Chief of the Chaloklowa Chickasaw Indian People, for his continuing efforts to provide the school children of South Carolina with a knowledge of South Carolina's Native Indian people and the traditional ways of Indian culture to ensure that this legacy will never be forgotten.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mingo Vernon M. Tanner.
