A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND JOEL EDWARD (EDDIE) TURNER OF GASTON, THE LEXINGTON COUNTY FIRE CHIEF FOR THE SOUTH CONGAREE AND GASTON STATIONS, FOR THE EXCELLENT JOB HE HAS DONE DURING HIS TENURE AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE FIREMEN'S ASSOCIATION AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN FUTURE SERVICE-RELATED ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Eddie Turner attended the University of Memphis and is a graduate of Midlands Technical College where he received an associate degree in business with a fire service administration specialty. He also attended the South Carolina Fire Academy, the National Fire Academy, and Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Further training included numerous courses and seminars on firefighting, public fire education, medical and rescue, hazardous materials, communications, fire inspections, fire investigations and management, and leadership; and

Whereas, for the past year Eddie Turner has served as president of the South Carolina State Firemen's Association. During his tenure and through his leadership and innovative thinking, he has turned the association around. He revitalized the association in many ways, including upgrading its benefits package and making it a more customer service oriented association. He has been essential in moving the association forward and providing better services to its members; and

Whereas, since 1986, Eddie has been the Lexington County Fire Chief serving South Congaree and Gaston fire stations where he supervises a staff of permanent and volunteer personnel. From 1977 until he was hired as Lexington County Fire Chief, Eddie was a volunteer firefighter and fire officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1979, Captain in 1980, Deputy Chief in 1982, and served as interim Chief twice between 1982 and 1986; and

Whereas, among his many honors are Lexington County Fire Officer of the Year for 1995 and 1996, member and past president of the S. C. Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators since 1986, member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, member of the Lexington County Fire Officer's Association, and a member of the South Carolina State Fire Chiefs Association. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate and commend Joel Edward (Eddie) Turner of Gaston, the Lexington County Fire Chief for the South Congaree and Gaston stations, for the excellent job he has done during his tenure as the president of the South Carolina State Firemen's Association and wish him all the best in future service-related endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Joel Edward (Eddie) Turner.
