A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND JEAN CLAIRE GIBBONS OF NEW ZION FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR HER OUTSTANDING WORK AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY.

Whereas, Jean Claire Gibbons was born in New Zion in Clarendon County and educated in East Clarendon District Three public schools. She received her bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina and later her masters in Education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gibbons is married to Bobby Gibbons, Fourth Vice Commander for the American Legion. They are the proud parents of Carole, Paige, Rob, and Hannah, and the grandparents of seven. Mrs. Gibbons is a member of New Zion United Methodist Church, where she serves as a trustee and an adult Sunday school teacher; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gibbons severed as President of the New Zion Unit 149 of the American Legion Auxiliary and later became President of the South Carolina Chapter. She has proudly and effectively served in this capacity until the recent completion of her term; and

Whereas, the American Legion Auxiliary is an organization made up of women of all ages and from all walks of life who are either members of the American Legion or are the mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or grandmother of a current member of the American Legion; and

Whereas, the women of the American Legion Auxiliary work together throughout the United States to defend and teach the principles of democracy, to uphold the law of the land, to foster patriotism, to venerate and serve our nation's veterans, and to instill a sense of obligation to the community, state, and nation. The Auxiliary also strives to guard the basic freedoms of religion, expression, and choice, to support the work of the American Legion, and to continue its association with devotion for service to God and country; and

Whereas, the American Legion Auxiliary works to accomplish these goals through programs such as Girls Nation, the Spirit of Youth Foundation, VolunTeens, and many other local and national scholarship programs. The women of the American Legion Auxiliary also organize community blood drives, worldwide emergency and disaster relief, and programs to promote citizenship and education; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives wish to express their appreciation to Mrs. Jean Claire Gibbons for her work to support South Carolina's veterans and to preserve the most sacred and cherished ideals of the United States and the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Jean Claire Gibbons of New Zion for her many years of dedication and service to the American Legion Auxiliary and to express the gratitude of the House of Representatives for her outstanding work as President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Jean Claire Gibbons of New Zion.
