A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND HELEN CORBIN SIMS OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER DEDICATION AND HARD WORK UPON HER RETIREMENT AS SUPERVISOR OF CUSTODIAL SERVICES FOR THE BLATT BUILDING AND TO WISH HER THE VERY BEST IN THE ACTIVE LIFE SHE WILL LEAD IN HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Helen Corbin Sims is the daughter of the late Deacon Thomas and Caroline Mickens Sims and is the youngest of their seventeen children; and

Whereas, she has been married to Mr. Willie James Sims for thirty-seven years and, while they were not blessed with children of their own, they adopted Helen's niece, Pauline Loretta Hemphill, and raised her lovingly until her passing in 1979; and

Whereas, Mrs. Sims is a faithful member of Second Nazareth Baptist Church on Elmwood Avenue in Richland County where she enjoys singing with the Jubilee Choir. Helen receives great wisdom, faith, and encouragement from the teachings of her pastor, J. Walter Hill; and

Whereas, Helen began her employment career with the State of South Carolina twenty-five years ago, and has been the supervisor of custodial serves of the Blatt Building for fifteen years; and

Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the members of the House of Representatives that Mrs. Sims will retire on September 7, 2001. She has been a dedicated employee who always did her part to assure the people of South Carolina would take pride in the Solomon Blatt Office Building; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to recognize Helen Corbin Sims on the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Helen Corbin Sims of Richland County for her dedication and hard work upon her retirement as supervisor of custodial services for the Blatt Building and wish her the very best in the active life she will lead in her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Helen Corbin Sims.
