TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF CHARLES F. COOPER OF PAWLEY'S ISLAND ON AUGUST 11, 2001, AND CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the House of Representatives was extremely saddened when Charles F. Cooper passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2001, at Wee Tee Plantation in the Suttons Community of Williamsburg County; and

Whereas, Charles F. Cooper was born in Kingstree to the late Robert Peter Cooper and Nettie Knight Cooper. He graduated from Williamsburg High School, Wingate University, and the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy; and

Whereas, Mr. Cooper began his career at Reynolds Drug Store as a pharmacy intern. From there he founded the pharmacy at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in 1966, and went on to serve as Director of Pharmacy and financial management at the hospital. He was the founder and owner of several other pharmacies and services from Montgomery, Alabama to Washington, D.C., as well as all over South Carolina; and

Whereas, Charles F. Cooper has been honored with numerous awards and other recognition throughout his many years in the health care industry including "Entrepreneur of the Year for Health Care" in 1993 and South Carolina "Pharmacist of the Year" in 1981. He has also served on and been a vital member of various hospital and health care boards and was on the advisory boards of many drug companies; and

Whereas, Mr. Cooper's interest were quite vast in scope. He was a founding member of Wachesaw Plantation and Golf Resort in Murrells Inlet; a member of several banking, financial, and economic boards; and a member of the Waccamaw Private Industry Council for Georgetown, Williamsburg, and Horry counties; and

Whereas, Charles F. Cooper will be dearly missed by the many friends whose lives he has touched throughout his life, and he will be especially missed by his wife, Carol Clemons Cooper of Pawley's Island; sons Charles F. Cooper, Jr., and his wife Robbie, Gary C. Cooper and his wife, Kelly, all of Pawley's Island; daughters, Gina Cooper of Ballentine, Christy C. Whitlock and her husband, David, of Pawley's Island; brothers, R. P. Cooper, Jr., Donald E. Cooper, both of Andrews; grandchildren, Wesley Whitlock, Caroline Whitlock, Cooper Anne Whitlock, Tabor Cooper, Charles F. Cooper III, Gracyn Cooper, G. Clemons Cooper, Jr., Miles Clemons, Haley Clemons, Anderson Franklin Clemons, all of Pawley's Island; mother-in-law, Connie M. Clemons of Pawley's Island; sister-in-law, Mona C. Talley of Pawley's Island; and relative and close friend, Dr. Troy B. Gamble, Jr., of Columbia. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Charles F. Cooper of Pawley's Island on August 11, 2001, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Carol Clemons Cooper.
