A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-40, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PERSONS WHO MAY NOT BE GRANTED A DRIVER'S LICENSE, SO AS TO INCLUDE IN THE EXCEPTION OF PERSONS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WHO MAY BE GRANTED A LICENSE, A PERSON WHO IS PRESENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA ON A FIANCÉ VISA OR THE DEPENDENTS OF SUCH PERSON.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-1-40(7) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Part II, Section 121D of Act 497 of 1994, is further amended to read:

    "(7)    who is not a resident of South Carolina, except for persons a person from other countries another country who are is present in South Carolina on a student visa or on a, work visa, or fiancé visa or the dependents of the student or, worker, or fiancé who may be issued a license. However, the granting of the license is not evidence of meeting the residency requirements of Section 59-112-20;"

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
