EXPRESSING THE OPPOSITION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO A PROPOSAL BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CLOVER BYPASS.
Whereas, the South Carolina Department of Transportation has a proposal for the construction of a Clover bypass at an estimated cost of fourteen million dollars; and
Whereas, estimates of rights-of-way acquisition costs for this project are nine and one-half million dollars, more than twice actual construction costs; and
Whereas, traffic currently moves smoothly through Clover and presents no problems for residents or vehicles traversing the town; and
Whereas, the overwhelming sentiment of Clover residents, as expressed to their legislative delegation members, is against such a bypass; and
Whereas, there is no shortage of road construction and improvement projects that are desperately needed and would be supported by Clover residents. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their opposition to the South Carolina Department of Transportation's proposal for a Clover bypass and add their voices to the views in opposition to the bypass expressed by members of the legislative delegation representing the area and Clover residents.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Bayles Mack, member of the Commission of the Department of Transportation representing the fifth district.
