EXPRESSING THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES REGARDING THE DEATH OF DR. THOMAS M. DAVIS OF CLARENDON COUNTY AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Dr. Thomas M. Davis of Manning, Clarendon County, died December 10, 2001, at the age of eighty-two; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis was a graduate of University High School of Columbia, the University of South Carolina, and the Medical College of South Carolina; he was also a member of Blue Key and KSK honor fraternities at the University of South Carolina from 1941 to 1943; and
Whereas, he was a combat veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific; a native of Branchville, Dr. Davis moved to Manning in 1950 and practiced surgery at Clarendon Memorial Hospital as chief of surgery for forty years; he was a former chief of staff of Clarendon Memorial Hospital and a member of the board of trustees of Clarendon Memorial Hospital of Clarendon, Sumter, Lee, Georgetown, and Williamsburg Counties for thirty years; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Sumter, Clarendon, Lee Medical Society, South Carolina Medical Society, and American Medical Society, and executive secretary of the 7th Medical District; he was also a member of the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, and the South Carolina Chapter of the American College of Surgeons; and
Whereas, he was a member of the Manning Rotary Club, where he served as past president, was a Paul Harris Fellow, the Colonel Matthew Singleton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the South Carolina Huguenot Society, and the Family of Bruce Scot Society; and
Whereas, Dr. Davis clearly meant much to his community; he was an outstanding individual and was respected, admired, and loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow regarding the death of Dr. Thomas M. Davis of Clarendon County and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Pauline Adele Davis.
