SALUTING DR. CHARLES E. BEVIS UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PEE DEE MENTAL HEALTH CENTER, AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS EXCELLENT PUBLIC SERVICE DURING HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER.
Whereas, Dr. Charles E. Bevis is retiring in February 2002, as Executive Director of the Pee Dee Mental Health Center, a position he has held for twelve years - the longest tenure of any director; and
Whereas, Dr. Bevis was awarded the Master of Social Work in 1972 and the Master of Public Administration in 1976, both from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, he was also graduated with the Ph.D. degree in Mental Health Administration in 1984 from Case-Western Reserve University; and
Whereas, he has been devoted to attaining good mental health for those who are suffering, and he has worked unceasingly for this goal; and
Whereas, Dr. Bevis has brought growth and stability to the Pee Dee Mental Health Center; there are now more than two thousand persons served by one hundred forty staff members in twelve locations; in June 2001, Dr. Bevis was honored by the University of South Carolina College of Social Work as "distinguished Alumnus of 2001"; he also served as Florence County Mental Health Director for seventeen years; and
Whereas, Dr. Bevis is a shining example of the good one can do for others when he has the education, credentials, expertise, know-how, and dedication to effect changes for the well-being of society; we are greatly pleased to have the opportunity to accord such a grand leader and excellent public servant this special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes Dr. Charles E. Bevis upon his retirement as Executive Director of the Pee Dee Mental Health Center and thanks him for his excellent public service during his distinguished career.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Bevis.
