A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO DR. JAIME CONDOM, M.D., FOR HIS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THE STATE'S MENTALLY DISABLED AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO DR. CONDOM AND HIS FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH.

Whereas, Dr. Jaime Condom, M.D., is regrettably retiring from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health on March 1, 2002, after dedicating thirty-eight years of his life to helping the mentally disabled; and

Whereas, Dr. Jaime Condom has served the State of South Carolina since 1984 and has given of himself through his service as Interim Director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, and as Director of the South Carolina State Hospital while simultaneously serving as acting director during times of crisis in the history of the Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, the Morris Village, Crafts Farrow State Hospital, and Byrnes Medical Center; and

Whereas, in each instance, Dr. Condom resolved the conflict and restored clinical integrity to each facility, and he also helped successfully negotiate a settlement in a case brought by the United States Justice Department against the South Carolina Department of Mental Health involving the civil rights of institutionalized persons; and

Whereas, Dr. Condom has always held the rights and dignity of the mentally disabled, their families, and his staff as his highest priority and is well-respected and loved by all who know him; and

Whereas, Dr. Jamie Condom is a devoted husband to his wife, Kathy, and they are the loving parents of three daughters, Maria, Valerie, and Leigh, and Dr. Condom and his entire family have all sacrificed their personal time for the benefit of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and the people of the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Jaime Condom, M.D., for his efforts to improve the lives of South Carolina's mentally disabled and to extend best wishes to Dr. Condom and his family on the occasion of his retirement from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Jaime Condom.
