TO COMMEND AND HONOR PASTOR CURTIS L. JOHNSON OF VALLEY BROOK OUTREACH BAPTIST CHURCH IN GREENVILLE FOR HIS DYNAMIC CHRISTIAN MINISTRY AND HIS DEDICATION TO SERVING HIS FELLOW MAN TO THE GLORY OF GOD.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to recognize the generous service and kind acts of Pastor Curtis L. Johnson of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church in Greenville; and
Whereas, Pastor Curtis L. Johnson was born September 27, 1967, to Deacon William and Sadie Johnson in Greenville County. He attended Rock Hill Baptist Church #1 and accepted Christ at the age of fifteen on April 3, 1983; and
Whereas, Pastor Johnson graduated from J. L. Mann High School in 1985. He worked as a B-52 Air Craft Maintenance Specialist in the United State Air Force in Merced, California, from 1986 until 1990, when he and his new wife, Charla, felt Christ's calling and returned to Greenville to help his grandfather, the Reverend A. B. Sherman, build Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church; and
Whereas, Pastor Johnson has studied at Morris College School of Religion, American Baptist Theological Seminary, North Greenville College, and Greenville Technical College. He became pastor of Valley Brook in May 1993; and
Whereas, Pastor Johnson has been instrumental in a three-phase expansion of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church, one of the fastest growing churches in the city. The first phase was the construction of the Reverend A. B. Sherman Ministry Center for outreach programs, and the next two phases include a two thousand seat cathedral and a school; and
Whereas, Pastor Johnson also helped found the Ernest Rice Foundation in Spartanburg for troubled young men. His generous spirit and caring attitude have resulted in his being nominated as one of the "Outstanding Young Men of America"; and
Whereas, Pastor Johnson and his wife, Charla, work together to promote and glorify the Kingdom of God. They have two sons, Isaiah and Joshua, and a goddaughter, Nicole, residing with them; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize and honor the community service of this distinguished son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and honor Pastor Curtis L. Johnson of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church in Greenville for his dynamic Christian ministry and his dedication to serving his fellow man to the glory of God.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pastor Curtis L. Johnson of Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church in Greenville.
