A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE REVEREND ANTHONY A. MCCALLUM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HIS FELLOWMAN AS A DEDICATED MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, AND TO JOYFULLY EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS INSTALLATION AS THE PASTOR AND SPIRITUAL LEADER OF BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH OF COLUMBIA.

Whereas, a native of Maxton, North Carolina, the Reverend Anthony A. McCallum has accepted the call of the official Board of Deacons and the Bethlehem Baptist Church family to live and work with the good people who are the congregation of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and to be installed as their pastor and spiritual leader; and

Whereas, the Reverend McCallum is a graduate of Shaw University, Bachelor of Ministry, and Trinity Seminary, Master of Divinity, and has engaged in further studies at McCormick Theological Seminary. The Reverend McCallum is also a certified Chaplain; and

Whereas, the Reverend McCallum's life is noted for his great love and compassion for all mankind and for a ministry in which he strives to bring both the young and old together for Christ. The Reverend McCallum was called to preach in November of 1986, under the direction of the Reverend J. C. McLean, Pastor of Star of Bethlehem Church in Laurinburg, North Carolina; and

Whereas, the Reverend McCallum's first pastorate began in Asheville, North Carolina, with the St. John A. Baptist Church. In later years his ministry included service with Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Greenwood. He is presently serving as the Pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, College Place, in Columbia; and

The Reverend McCallum's ministry includes outstanding service in many organizations including, but not limited to, prison ministry, the Greater United Ministries Board of Directors, Lander University Board of Visitors, the Faith Home Ministry Board of Directors, Chairperson of Racial and Ethical Commission, and Chairperson of Family and Spiritual Life of the Annual Wellness Celebration; and

Whereas, the Reverend McCallum was appointed by Governor Jim Hodges to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the School of the Deaf and Blind. He is also a volunteer teacher's aid for the H.O.S.T. Program, Woodfield Elementary School; and

Whereas, throughout his life and ministry, the Reverend McCallum's objective has always been to manifest Jesus as Lord, to strengthen, to renew, to refresh, and to restore the body of Christ, and to join with his brothers and sisters in Christ in fulfilling the great commission by taking the full Gospel into all the world; and

Whereas, the Reverend McCallum is married to Angela McCallum of Shelby, North Carolina. They are the proud parents of two children, Tiffany and Anthony II. And, on the occasion of his installation as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Reverend McCallum's only request is that the congregation and his many friends remember him and his family in their prayers to the end that he and his family may continue to grow in strength and wisdom, and in favor with God and man. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the Reverend Anthony A. McCallum for his outstanding accomplishments and lifetime of service to his fellowman as a dedicated minister of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to joyfully extend a warm welcome to him and his family on the occasion of his installation as the pastor and spiritual leader of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Columbia

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Anthony A. McCallum on the occasion of his installation as the minister of Bethlehem Baptist Church, of Columbia.
