A HOUSE RESOLUTION

WELCOMING NEW YORK CITY FIREFIGHTER STEVE O'DONNELL TO SOUTH CAROLINA THE WEEKEND OF MARCH 1 THROUGH MARCH 3, 2002, AND EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON BEHALF OF ALL SOUTH CAROLINIANS FOR THE HEROIC EFFORTS AND SACRIFICES MADE BY NEW YORK CITY'S FIREFIGHTERS, POLICE OFFICERS, AND RESCUE WORKERS ON, AND IN THE AFTERMATH OF, SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.

Whereas, it is impossible to express adequately the profound grief, sorrow, and anger felt by all Americans upon learning of the shocking terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center and The Pentagon on September 11, 2001; and

Whereas, on the same day an airplane hijacked as a part of these cowardly exercises crashed in the countryside outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, killing all aboard; and

Whereas, in the face of these terrible losses, the firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers of New York City personified America's collective strength and resolve at this most critical juncture in our nation's distinguished history; and

Whereas, communities across the nation are united in their unwavering support for these heroes whose daily display of uncommon valor has inspired and galvanized a nation; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is most honored to have one of these heroes, New York City firefighter Steve O'Donnell, visit our State as part of a national effort to thank New York's firefighters and to encourage travel and tourism across the country. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, welcomes New York City firefighter Steve O'Donnell to South Carolina the weekend of March 1 through March 3, 2002, and expresses its deepest appreciation on behalf of all South Carolinians for the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by New York City's firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers on, and in the aftermath of, September 11, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to New York City firefighter, Steve O'Donnell.
