A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND EXTOL REVEREND WILLIE B. MCMAHAND OF PIEDMONT ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY ON MARCH 11, 2002, AT FLAT ROCK BAPTIST CHURCH, WHERE HE WILL CELEBRATE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are proud to honor Reverend Willie B. McMahand upon the celebration of his seventieth birthday, March 11, 2002, at Flat Rock Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand was born March 11, 1932, in Greenville to Alvin and Ethel Simpson McMahand; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand attended Greenville County Public Schools, J.J. Starks School of Religion Extension in Greenville, Emmaus Bible Institute, and Furman University, and received a Bachelor of Theology from Morris College and a Master of Ministry from Bethany Theological Seminary; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand has been a pastor for the past forty-two years at churches throughout the upstate of South Carolina and currently preaches at Flat Rock Baptist Church, where he has been pastor since 1974; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand has also been the owner of McMahand Construction Company for thirty-three years and was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives for Greenville District 25 in 1992 where he served for eight years before retiring in 2000; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand has been involved in many religious and secular organizations including Reedy River Baptist Association, Tyger River Union, National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Inc., and member of the Board of Trustees of Morris College, to name just a few; and

Whereas, throughout his life, Dr. McMahand has been honored with numerous prestigious awards and has made many great achievements such as the Baptist Association Award, Doctor of Divinity from International Theological Seminary, Church and Community Human Relation Award, NAACP Award for Outstanding Service, and the Order of the Palmetto among others; and

Whereas, Dr. McMahand received a great honor from Greenville Technical College when the college named its Engineering Technology Building the Willie B. McMahand Building in April 2000; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives extend their most sincere wishes for a happy seventieth birthday to Reverend Willie B. McMahand on March 11, 2002. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and extol Reverend Willie B. McMahand of Piedmont on the occasion of his seventieth birthday on March 11, 2002, at Flat Rock Baptist Church, where he will celebrate with family and friends, and wish him much happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Willie B. McMahand of Piedmont.
