A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. BLANCHE G. ODOM FOR HER OUTSTANDING WORK AS DIRECTOR OF THE CLARENDON COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING AND FOR ALL HER ACTS OF SERVICE TO OTHERS.

Whereas, in a special ceremony on April 14, 2002, the Clarendon County Council on Aging building will be officially named the "Blanche G. Odom Building" in honor of the remarkable work that Mrs. Odom has done for the more than seven thousand senior citizens of Clarendon County; and

Whereas, Mrs. Blanche Odom has worked with the Council on Aging for twenty-nine wonderful years beginning in 1973, and she has done an amazing job as director of the agency since 1980; and

Whereas, the Clarendon County Council on Aging now has three sites throughout the county thanks to the progressive and determined actions of Blanche Odom. Under her directorship grants have been written to enable the agency to carry out many projects and programs including the purchase of a building as an annex and the construction of an intergenerational activity park; and

Whereas, Blanche Odom works tirelessly to serve the people of Clarendon County with her work on the county's interagency council and its chapter for the South Carolina Federation for the Blind; and

Whereas, Mrs. Odom's service to others is not limited to her work in Clarendon County. She is a member of the South Carolina Council on Aging Directors Association, the Transportation Association of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Special Needs Task Force; and

Whereas, Mrs. Blanche Odom is a beloved and highly respected member of her community and the Palmetto State, and it is fitting that the members of the House of Representatives recognize her many years of service and the countless lives, young and old, that she has touched. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the South Carolina House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Mrs. Blanche G. Odom for her outstanding work as director of the Clarendon County Council on Aging and for all her acts of service to others.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Blanche G. Odom of Clarendon County.
