A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE BELOVED MRS. ANNIE B. DAVIS OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER SIXTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very proud to learn that Mrs. Annie B. Davis will be sixty-five years old on May 10, 2002; and

Whereas, Mrs. Annie Davis was reared in State Park, South Carolina, and was the twelfth of thirteen children to the late Eugene and Mattie Simons. She attended Anna Boyd Elementary School and graduated from Bethel High School in 1955; and

Whereas, Annie Davis married Elbert Davis, Sr., in 1957 and they have been blessed with four children: three sons, Elbert, Jr., Calvin Eugene, and Darnell; and one daughter, Tamara. Annie and Elbert are the loving grandparents of six grandchildren and also have a stepdaughter, Ruth; and

Whereas, while raising their family, Annie and Elbert Davis lived in Buffalo, New York. Annie arose above every societal obstacle to achievements that characterize her personal and professional life. She was a dedicated and loyal employee at Buffalo General Hospital for thirty-eight years; and

Whereas, during her early years in Buffalo, Annie Davis joined the St. Luke AME Church, where she remained a member for thirty-three years. She served St. Luke on numerous committees and programs including: President of the Home Mission Society, President of the Harriet Tubman Library Workers, and active member of the Gospel Choir. She was also a member of the Paramount Chapter No. 57, Order of the Eastern Star; and

Whereas, in 1997, Annie and Elbert Davis moved back to Columbia -- they now live in Elgin and attend Rehoboth Baptist Church. She has also joined the Queen Esther Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star and enjoys traveling and bowling; and

Whereas, Mrs. Annie Davis is known as an individual who has a passion for others and their needs. She has extended her influence as a concerned citizen and participant in moral, spiritual, and social activities in her community; and

Whereas, we, along with her family and many friends, are proud to reflect on the rich life of this dear and caring lady over the past sixty-five years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their sincere congratulations to the beloved Mrs. Annie B. Davis of Richland County on the occasion of her sixty-fifth birthday.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Annie B. Davis.
