TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BOYS SOCCER TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2002 SOUTH CAROLINA AA SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Chapin High School Varsity Boys Soccer Team played with tremendous heart and determination and won its first Class AA State Championship on Saturday, May 11, 2002; and
Whereas, the Chapin Eagles soccer team faced tough opponents throughout the season and, on each occasion, rose to the challenge, exhibiting extraordinary physical endurance and mental toughness to emerge victorious; and
Whereas, in their quest for the AA State Championship, the men from Chapin captured the 2002 Region III AA Championship and later the AA Upper-State Championship, while establishing an impressive overall record of twenty-one wins and one loss; and
Whereas, the Chapin Eagles met Bishop England High School, an extremely strong and familiar opponent, in the championship game, and after having suffered previous losses at the hands of the Bishops, the men of Chapin played a sensational match and captured the state title with a 2-1 victory; and
Whereas, the 2002 edition of the varsity boys soccer team at Chapin High School was made up of a great group of talented student-athletes including JR. Eargle, Justin Widener, Grant Billingsley, Joey Vitagliano, Stephen Stellfox, Kevin Geohegan, Scott Heinzelman, Drew Comalander, Trey Aull, Michael Frey, Griff Richardson, Jason Walker, Carson Bowen, Spencer Lovelace, Ramiro Pazymino, Eric Joyner, Chris West, Owen Jackson, Jose Vittar, and Matt Musick; and
Whereas, the Chapin High Varsity Boys Soccer Team is led by Head Coach Dick Hiller along with assistant coaches Scott Harmon and Chris Christian; team managers Katie Stroud and Amy Assemany keep the team's equipment in good shape and trainer Fred Williams makes sure all the players are physically ready to compete; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize the terrific accomplishments of the Chapin High boys soccer team and hope that all the team members, as well as their family and friends, will forever cherish their championship season. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the players, coaches, and staff of the Chapin High School Varsity Boys Soccer Team for their outstanding season of spirited competition and congratulate them on winning the 2002 South Carolina AA Soccer State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Dick Hiller on behalf of the 2002 Chapin High School Varsity Boys Soccer Team.
