A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND DOCTOR JAMES W. SALTER FOR HIS TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP OF THE CONGREGATION OF TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH OF COLUMBIA.

Whereas, Doctor James W. Salter has served the Temple Baptist Church of his native Columbia for twenty-two years; and

Whereas, that service culminates years of leadership and training that began as Student Body President of Dentsville High School and includes degrees from North Greenville College, the University of South Carolina, Southwestern Theological Seminary, and Luther Rice Seminary; and

Whereas, he made his home at Temple Baptist Church after a six-year stint at Blaney Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the church has flourished under his compassionate concern and learned theological teaching; and

Whereas, his Christian activities, a beacon for others desiring to walk in Jesus' way, include: committee member for Billy Graham Crusade; committee member for Pope's visit to Columbia; Moderator for Columbia Metro Association; member of South Carolina General Board; member of Ordination Council for Columbia Metro Association; part of group who partnered with Brazil for ten-day revival; first to receive the Elgin "Man of the Year" award; Chaplin of the Blue Knights, law enforcement motorcycle riders; and President of the Christian Motorcyclist Association, Columbia Chapter; and

Whereas, Doctor Salter is a veteran of a number of mission trips and two visits to the Holy Land; and

Whereas, those two visits to the Holy Land are the highlight of his life, except for his loving and devoted family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives commend Doctor James W. Salter for his twenty-two years of compassionate leadership of the Congregation of Temple Baptist Church of Columbia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Salter.
