A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEP APPRECIATION AND SINCERE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE DARLINGTON COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR THEIR HEROIC EFFORTS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE IN PROVIDING LIFE-SAVING ASSISTANCE TO REPRESENTATIVE DENNY NEILSON AT HER DEVASTATING ACCIDENT ON FEBRUARY 8, 2001.

Whereas, on February 8, 2001, Representative Denny Neilson was traveling on U.S. Highway 15 in rural Lee County when a tractor-trailer crossed the center line causing a horrific head-on collision with her vehicle; and

Whereas, at the time of the accident, a Darlington County Emergency Medical Services unit was traveling on the same highway in the vicinity of the accident and was able to arrive on the scene immediately after the accident and was assisted by a second Darlington County Emergency Medical Services unit that subsequently arrived on the scene; and

Whereas, the medical technicians found Representative Neilson's car crushed in and around her and with every second counting in this life-threatening situation, they promptly began intense efforts to provide every aspect of roadside emergency care possible; and

Whereas, by rendering their professional, caring, and highly skilled life-saving urgent care they were able to stabilize Representative Neilson before rushing her to the hospital and the beginning of her long and arduous journey home; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize the Darlington County Emergency Medical Services and, along with Representative Neilson and her devoted family and many friends, to publicly thank them for their life-saving emergency assistance and to express their great admiration for the outstanding medical competence and skill of the Darlington County Emergency Medical Services. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to the Darlington County Emergency Medical Services for their heroic efforts and professional expertise in providing life-saving assistance to Representative Denny Neilson at her devastating accident on February 8, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be given to the Darlington County Emergency Services.
