TO COMMEND COLONEL DAVID H. "DAVE" BRUNJES FOR HIS NEARLY THIRTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS A COMMISSIONED OFFICER IN BOTH THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND THE UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR HIS SUCCESSFUL TENURE AS COMMANDER OF THE 12TH LEGAL SUPPORT ORGANIZATION, FORT JACKSON, SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, David H. Brunjes' impressive career in public service began in 1973 when he graduated from The Citadel and was one of the few nonmilitary academy graduates selected to receive a highly coveted Regular Army commission as a Second Lieutenant; and

Whereas, Colonel Brunjes first distinguished himself in the renowned 82nd Airborne Division, where, as a young infantry officer, he excelled in a series of demanding duty assignments, including Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader, quickly ascending the commissioned ranks and ultimately being promoted to Captain in only four years of service; and

Whereas, consistent with his lead by example personality, Dave Brunjes volunteered for and successfully completed many of the Army's most mentally and physically challenging schools, including the United States Army Airborne School, the United States Army Ranger School, the United States Army Jump Masters School, and the United States Army Jungle Operations Course; and

Whereas, upon receiving his Juris Doctor Degree from Washburn University in 1980, Dave Brunjes served six more years on active duty as an attorney in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps; and

Whereas, shortly after joining the United States Army Reserve, Colonel Brunjes' invaluable services were again required on active duty during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he served as the Chief of Criminal Law at the United States Army Central Command Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and

Whereas, Colonel Brunjes has deservedly received many of our country's highest military awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Southwest Asia Campaign Ribbon with three bronze service stars, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Infantryman's Badge; and

Whereas, in recognition of his incomparable leadership abilities, Colonel Brunjes was selected to command the 12th Legal Support Organization, a brigade-level command, which is a notable achievement for any officer in the Reserve Components, but much more so for a Judge Advocate General Officer; and

Whereas, Colonel David H. Brunjes is the consummate citizen soldier, whose full-time civilian career as the Deputy Legal Counsel at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia, has been no less impressive; and

Whereas, Dave Brunjes and his loving wife Barbara are blessed with four wonderful children, Jonathan, Thomas, Kimberly, and Kerri, who was born while her father was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations and take this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to Colonel David H. Brunjes for his three decades of loyal and selfless public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Colonel David H. "Dave" Brunjes for his nearly thirty years of outstanding and dedicated service as a commissioned officer in both the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, and congratulate him for his successful tenure as Commander of the 12th Legal Support Organization, Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be delivered to Colonel David H. Brunjes, USAR.
