EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO BISHOP C. L. LORICK, SR., PASTOR OF REHOBOTH UNITED CHURCH (APOSTOLIC) IN RICHLAND COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND WISHING HIM MANY YEARS OF GOOD HEALTH, HAPPINESS, AND CONTINUED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY AND OUR STATE.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Bishop C. L. Lorick, Sr., Pastor of Rehoboth United Church (Apostolic) in Richland County, is retiring after a long and distinguished career in Christian ministry; and

Whereas, he was born in Lexington County on May 5, 1928, attended the Orangeburg County public schools, and graduated from North Industrial Institute. Upon graduation, he served a tour of duty with the United States Army; and

Whereas, Bishop Lorick has been married for more than fifty-three years to the former Elease Porterfield, and together they are the proud parents of nine children; and

Whereas, over the years Bishop Lorick served his churches as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, and Youth President. After faithful service in these roles, in 1962 he was called to the preaching ministry and served as an Associate Minister at Mount Sinai Holiness Church where he was instrumental in forming the "Youth Progress for Christ" organization which was designed to enhance wholesome activities and fellowship among Apostolic young people; and

Whereas, in 1965 he was ordained as an elder and installed as pastor of a mission church located on Bluff Road in Richland County which eventually was moved to Cushman Drive in Richland County and became Rehoboth United Church (Apostolic); and

Whereas, in 1979 he was consecrated as a Bishop, and was assigned for one year as Diocesan of the Northern Diocese, and for one year as Diocesan for the State of Florida. He has also served as assistant to the presiding Bishop for the Islands of Nevis and St. Kitts. He was appointed to the South Carolina Diocese in 1980 and appointed Vice-Presiding Bishop of the United Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) in 1992; and

Whereas, in 1972 Bishop Lorick launched "The Rehoboth Hour", South Carolina's first call-in religious radio broadcast over WQXL in the City of Columbia. In 1981 he was a member of a group of eight ministers and businessmen who formed Midland Communication Company, Inc., which in 1984 launched Columbia's first Black-owned full-time gospel radio station, WTGH AM 620, "The Gospel Highway"; and

Whereas, over the years he has served as Vice President, assistant station manager, and general manager for Midland Communication Company, Inc.; and

Whereas, Bishop Lorick has been very active in both community and civic organizations which include service on the boards and working with: The Black Adoption Agency; The Columbia Ministerial Alliance; The Child Fatality Committee; The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance; One Church-One Child; Billy Graham Crusade Committee; North Columbia Civic Club; and the Greenview Community Civic Club; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to congratulate this distinguished son of South Carolina on the occasion of his retirement and to express their appreciation for his ministerial work. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina express congratulations and best wishes to Bishop C. L. Lorick, Sr., Pastor of Rehoboth United Church (Apostolic) in Richland County on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many years of good health, happiness, and continued service to the citizens of his community and our State.
