A SENATE RESOLUTION

COMMENDING ROBERT L. "RED" MCELVEEN OF LAKE CITY IN FLORENCE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS MAGISTRATE FOR THE LAKE CITY DISTRICT, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Honorable "Red" McElveen has served with distinction as magistrate of the Lake City District in Florence County since 1990. His reputation is one of fairness, tempering justice with compassion; and

Whereas, he was born in Hartsville in 1929 and was educated in its public schools, being the first to graduate from the twelfth grade at Hartsville High School. He attended Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. He remains a tried and true Gamecock fan after almost sixty years; and

Whereas, Red married Felicia Brown in 1953 and they have two daughters, Deborah McElveen Beard and Sharon L. McElveen. Soon after their marriage Red and his bride moved to Lake City where he became a businessman and civic-minded participant in community affairs. For over thirty years, Red owned and managed the McElveen Insurance and Real Estate Agency; and

Whereas, Red was past president, at different times in his life, of the Lake City Board of Realtors, the Lake City Jaycees, and the Lake City Lions Club. He has served on the City Council for Lake City and been active in its Chamber of Commerce. He is a Mason and Shriner; and

Whereas, a witnessing Christian, Judge McElveen is a member of the Lake City First Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, and deacon; and

Whereas, he has had a long career of community service. He is respected by peers in the insurance profession and the legal profession. While Red may be retiring as a magistrate, there is no doubt he will continue in his chosen work of seeking to make his community and the State a better place in which to live. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of Senate, by this resolution, commend Robert L. "Red" McElveen of Lake City in Florence County on the occasion of his retirement after years of dedicated service as magistrate for the Lake City District, and extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert L. "Red" McElveen.
