A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-149-10, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE ELIGIBILITY FOR AND AMOUNTS OF A LIFE SCHOLARSHIP, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2001-2002 ONLY, ELIGIBLE RESIDENT STUDENTS ATTENDING TWO-YEAR INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING WHO RECEIVED A LIFE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE YEAR 2000-2001 SHALL RECEIVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP DOLLARS FOR 2001-2002 AS THEY DID FOR 2000-2001 IF THEY OTHERWISE QUALIFY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 59-149-10 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 1 of 2001, is further amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(E) For school year 2001-2002 only, eligible resident students attending two-year independent institutions of higher learning who received a LIFE Scholarship for the year 2000-2001 and who meet all requirements to receive a LIFE Scholarship for the year 2001-2002 shall receive the same amount of scholarship dollars for 2001-2002 as they did for 2000-2001."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
