A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. GEORGE DEAN JOHNSON, JR., OF SPARTANBURG FOR HIS KEY ROLE IN BRINGING A NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE COMPANY'S HEADQUARTERS TO SPARTANBURG AND TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR HIS GENEROUS SUPPORT AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO SPARTANBURG AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mr. George Dean Johnson, Jr., of Spartanburg, a prominent businessman and outstanding community leader has made extraordinary contributions to the City of Spartanburg; and

Whereas, Mr. Johnson, who returned to Spartanburg two years ago, played a key role in bringing a New York Stock Exchange company's headquarters to Spartanburg, a prestigious addition to Spartanburg's corporate community and a boon to the economy; and

Whereas, not only has he brought in new corporate residents, Mr. Johnson has undertaken the sizeable development of two office buildings in downtown Spartanburg and has additional projects on the drawing board; and

Whereas, Mr. Johnson, who appreciates the value and enjoyment of a community's character and beauty, has enhanced Spartanburg's milieu by placing fountains and bronze sculptures in the downtown area and by assisting with other beautification projects; and

Whereas, Mr. Johnson's abundant generosity and extraordinary vision have made significant contributions to the City and County of Spartanburg as well as to the State and have influenced the beauty and quality of life for Spartanburg residents; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to commend such an outstanding South Carolina business and community leader. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and express their deepest gratitude to Mr. George Dean Johnson, Jr., of Spartanburg for his key role in bringing a New York Stock Exchange company's headquarters to Spartanburg and for his generous support and many contributions to Spartanburg and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. George Dean Johnson, Jr.
