A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND EXTEND THE SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO ONE OF THE PALMETTO STATE'S MOST PROMINENT AND RESPECTED LEADERS, M. LEE POWELL III OF GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, UPON BEING NAMED THE 2000 RECIPIENT OF THE AMERICAN CONCRETE PAVEMENT ASSOCIATION'S HARTMANN-HIRSCHMAN AWARD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are proud to learn that M. Lee Powell III, President of Ballenger Paving Company, was named the 2000 recipient of the American Concrete Pavement Association's Hartmann-Hirschman Award. He was also recognized for being the only person to serve twice as ACPA Chairman, once in 1985 and again in 1999; and

Whereas, the Hartmann-Hirschman Award, which recognizes individuals or companies/organizations for excellence and meritorious service to the concrete pavement industry, is one of the most coveted awards presented by the American Concrete Pavement Association; and

Whereas, this award recognizes Lee Powell's more than forty years of leadership, tireless service, and dedication to advancing the use and roles of portland cement concrete pavements, as well as his well-established record of quality concrete pavement construction and rehabilitation; and

Whereas, Lee Powell has been a noted churchman at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, having served as Elder; and

Whereas, this distinguished South Carolinian has been the loving husband to Bonnie Powell for thirty-six years. They are blessed with two sons, M. Lee Powell IV and Russell Powell and are the loving grandparents of four grandchildren: three boys, Austin, Pitts, and Cole; and one girl, Ashlyn; and

Whereas, M. Lee Powell III is a special man who has a certain dignity and demeanor to which we all aspire; and

Whereas, it is most befitting for the South Carolina Senate to pause in their deliberations to recognize the distinguished career and accomplishments of M. Lee Powell III. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby honor and extend their sincere congratulations to one of the Palmetto State's most prominent and respected leaders, M. Lee Powell III of Greenville, South Carolina, upon being named the 2000 recipient of the American Concrete Pavement Association's Hartmann-Hirschman Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to M. Lee Powell III.
