TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF DON CAUGHMAN OF WEST COLUMBIA ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2002, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Amend Title To Conform
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina were deeply saddened by the death of loving family man and respected and loyal friend, Don Caughman, of West Columbia on February 1, 2002, at the age of sixty-three; and
Whereas, David Don Caughman was born in Richland County to Corrie Ward and Henry M. Caughman. He graduated from Lexington High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Caughman was a teacher and Chairman of the Science Department at Airport High School from 1960-1963, and he was a former partner and Office Manager of Caughman's Meat Plant, Inc. in Lexington. Most recently he was a procurement manager in the Division of General Services for the South Carolina Budget and Control Board; and
Whereas, Mr. Caughman was very active in Lexington County and held many leadership roles in the Democratic Party, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Board of Education, Optimist Club, Lions Club, Arts Association, and the Lexington Cotillion. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1967 from the Lexington Jaycees; and
Whereas, Don Caughman was also a member of the State College Board of Trustees and the Lander College Board of Trustees; and
Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family and friends of Don Caughman. He is survived by his wife, Lynda, of West Columbia; his mother, Corrie Ward, of Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Eliza and Caldwell Spence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Montford and Deborah Caughman and Christopher and Michelle Caughman, all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Drake, Clint, Rut, and Whit Spence, Logan, Mattison, and Truman Caughman, and Amy Chavis, all of Lexington; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Carole Caughman, of Gilbert. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Don Caughman of West Columbia on Friday, February 1, 2002, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Lynda Caughman, of West Columbia.
